Helping addicts recover
Addiction starting with teens
Statistics : Early drinking is a risk factor for alcohol use disorders. Adults who had taken their first drink of alcohol before the age of 15 were 6.5 times more likely to experience an alcohol use disorder than those who didn’t start drinking before age 21. (SAMHSA, 2017 NSDUH).
What teens can do: Refuse peer pressure. Wait till they are 21 till they drink.
What parents can do: Talk to their kids so they know the risks of persistent underage drinking.

How to help with cravings
Mindfulness & Meditation
Mindfulness is a heightened state of awareness of your surroundings and yourself. This increased level of awareness can make it easier for you to tolerate the ups and downs of withdrawal. Meditation is an excellent tool for cultivating mindfulness.
Healthy Eating
People affected by alcoholism often have poor diets. A lack of needed nutrients can potentially make your withdrawal symptoms more intense. A well-balanced, healthy diet will help you restore missing nutrients. It may also help reduce the severity of withdrawal.
Deep breathing
Deep breathing is an intentional form of rhythmic breathing. It can help you lower your stress levels and clear your head. As a result, it may also improve your ability to make it through withdrawal.
Exercise
Even a little bit of exercise can help you tolerate withdrawal. Exercising can not only strengthen your body. It can also boost your sense of confidence and self-control.
